Can you see the word “JESUS” in the midst of the yellow shapes? Don’t focus on the yellow shapes. Focus on the green between the shapes.
I will be using this craft in a class this weekend so I have created some samples of it that I have sitting around my house. When I look at any of them, I usually at first do not see “JESUS” in it. After a second or two, “JESUS” becomes so obvious.
With Advent just around the corner, this craft reminds me how Advent is a time when our society tries to hide Jesus in all the activities and to-do lists. One of our challenges during the Advent season is to keep rediscovering Jesus in the midst of all the busyness.
This would also be a great craft to do on the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus (January 3rd).
To create this optical illusion you can use any two colors — the bigger the contrast, the more it will stand out.
Print the shapes on a sheet of paper or cardstock. This will print shapes for two optical illusions.
Now print on a sheet of cardstock (use cardstock so it stands up) the template that shows where to glue the shapes.
Cut out the shapes. Turn them over so that any lines that weren’t completely cut off don’t show. Match the shapes to the template shapes. Glue in place.
Fold in half.
And it is done! This optical illusion is so easy to create!
