Each year as I prepare to teach about Ash Wednesday and Lent, I wish there was a booklet to explain them. This year I created one!
There are two options for this booklet:
- A children’s size booklet (finished size of 4.25″ x 5.5″) — printed two-sided on 8.5″ x 11″ paper.
- A classroom size booklet (finished size 8.5″ x 11″) — printed with picture on one side and the words on the other side of the paper so it is easier for you to show the pictures while you are reading the text.
Let’s begin with the children’s size booklet. Print two-sided onto 8.5″ x 11″ paper.

For the classroom size booklet, print the pages two-sided. I print it on white cardstock so the pages are easier to show to a class.

I prefer to leave the pages loose so I can hold up one page at a time as I read the booklet to the children.
I hope this booklet helps you explain Ash Wednesday and Lent to your children!
